Special education teachers
Disabled children in many countries face discrimination and are excluded from active participation in family and community life. Inclusive Education can change attitudes and support disabled people in exercising their rights.
Right now we're urgently looking for 25 experienced teachers with a background in inclusive education, as well teachers for the deaf or blind. You could be advising teachers in mainstream schools on how to identify, assess and include children with special needs. Or you might train teachers in Braille and develop effective teaching materials. You could be working in Guyana, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Vietnam or Papua New Guinea.
Skills needed to volunteer in Special Education
Inclusive Education: You'll need to be a qualified teacher with a postgraduate certificate in education, B.Ed or equivalent, and a minimum of 3 years' teaching experience at at primary or secondary level, with a thorough understanding of inclusive education (inclusion, differentiation, identifying and assessing special needs).
Teachers of the Deaf or Blind: Ideally you'll be qualified teacher with a postgraduate certificate in education or B.Ed or hold a degree level qualification in a relevant subject. You'll need at least 2 years' experience of teaching the visually or hearing impaired. A diploma in teaching the hearing or visually impaired is often desirable. Qualifications and experience in Braille are useful. Most posts within the field of hearing impairment generally request qualifications in sign language (BSL/ASL).

Working with the Gansu Provincial Research Institute you will be assessing the training needs of its Special Education Teachers and providing a trainnig programme to increase their skills. Read more here.
Sign lnaguage interpreter and trainer - The Gambia
There is a shortage of training for sign language interpreters in The Gambia. As a volunteer you will train existing and new interpreters as well as teaching sign language to adults and children. Read more here.
Special Education Teacher – Rwanda
Based in the Butare Centre for the Deaf, you'll strengthen teacher capabilities by providing training on inclusion and innovate the content and approach of training programmes. Read more here.
Education Adviser for the Deaf - Guyana
You'll be sharing your expertise in Special Education with colleagues at the Guyana Community Based Rehabilitation Programme. You’ll enable teachers to provide relevant and quality education to previously excluded deaf children in Guyana, ensuring they receive a better start in life. Read more here.
Teacher of the Deaf - Nigeria
Educational facilities for deaf children in Nigeria are very limited. As a volunteer in Kaduna, you'll equip new teachers with the skills needed to identify, assess and interact with pupils with hearing disabilities. Read more here.
Primary Teachers
Right now we're looking for nearly 150 primary school teachers to work in countries such as Malawi, Rwanda and The Maldives. By sharing your skills and experience with local colleagues you'll ensure that they can provide quality child-centred education to more children in their countries. If you’re a qualified primary school teacher with at least 3 years' experience, we want to hear from you.

Primary Teacher Trainer - Ghana
As a Primary Teacher Trainer working in a cluster of schools in the Bongo district, you’ll develop and run an in-service teacher training programme for student teachers and promote child-centred learning methodologies. Read more here.

As a volunteer with the District Education Office you’ll improve the quality of classroom teaching and learning, particularly for girls and children with disabilities. Read more here.
Education manager/School leaders
As well as recruiting teachers to work in education delivery, we urgently need volunteers with experience in managing processes and standards within education systems. If you're an experienced teacher with at least 5 year's classroom plus management experience, you’ll be able to help increase the efficiency of education systems in countries such as Cambodia, Ghana and Ethiopia.

Management and Administration Programme Adviser - Ethiopia
The Ethiopian Ministry for Education has identified a need to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of general education management and administration at all levels. You will be supporting colleagues in the Regional Education Bureau to help make the programme as robust and relevant as possible. Read more here.
